Official Draw Held for Fed Cup

Canada draws Brazil, Cuba and Puerto Rico in their round robin group

The official draw for this week’s Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Americas Zone Group I tie took place Tuesday in Paraguay. The four-day competition will be contested between Brazil, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Paraguay, and Puerto Rico on the outdoor clay courts at the Yacht y Golf Club Paraguayo in the city of Lambare from February 3-6, 2010.

The participating nations were divided into t groups (four nations in Group A, four nations in Group B) for round-robin action. The winners of each group will then face off for the chance to take part in the World Group II qualifying round in April 2010. The two lowest ranking teams will be sent to Group II of the Americas Zone in 2011.

Stéphanie Dubois (Laval, QC), Sharon Fichman (Toronto, ON), Marie-Ève Pelletier (Repentigny, QC) and Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) were chosen to represent Canada by Miele Canadian Fed Cup team captain Rene Collins.

Today’s draw produced the following groups and match ups:
